Search video frames and spoken words on Mac

Nevervault Pro makes footage searchable in two ways: visual search over sampled frames and on-device transcription for spoken words. Originals stay on your drives.

Find a shot by what it looks like

Enable video indexing in Nevervault's settings, then index a folder of clips. Nevervault samples frames and adds their visual content to its local search index. Describe a subject or scene to find matching footage alongside your still photographs.

Frame sampling does not inspect every instant of a clip. A brief action between sampled frames may be missed. Treat visual search as a way to locate likely footage, then review the clip before choosing your edit.

Find a moment by what was said

Turn on transcription to make speech searchable. Transcription runs on the Mac and produces timestamped words. In a transcribed clip, select a word to jump to that point in the video.

This is useful for interviews, commentary and documentary footage. Accuracy depends on the recording: overlapping voices, music and background noise can produce mistakes. Check the original audio before relying on a transcript as an exact quotation.

Blackmagic RAW support

Nevervault supports BRAW indexing and playback through its bundled Blackmagic RAW decoder. Add your .braw footage with video indexing enabled, then search its sampled frames. Transcription can also process BRAW audio when it is available.

If Nevervault reports that BRAW decoding is unavailable, update or reinstall the app and use Repair BRAW Indexing in Settings. Other files can continue indexing while affected BRAW files wait for repair.

Containers, codecs and playback

MOV, MP4, M4V and several professional containers are recognized. A filename extension alone cannot tell you whether the codec inside will decode. Some professional formats use a local playback proxy, which takes time and disk space to generate.

See the format guide for recognized containers and unsupported proprietary camera RAW formats. Keep the original drive connected for playback; indexed frames do not replace the video file.

Availability

Video search and spoken-word transcription require Pro and are included in the 14-day trial. Nevervault runs on Apple silicon with macOS 14 or later. The archive is not uploaded for visual indexing or transcription; see the privacy policy for the app's separate licensing and update connections.
